Biomass - The green heating solution

Biomass is a renewable, low carbon fuel that comes in the form of pellets, woodchip or logs. It is a sustainable fuel that can deliver a significant reduction in net carbon emissions when compared with fossil fuels.

Biomass is the natural choice

Biomass refers to a biological material derived from living, or recently living organisms, most commonly plants or plant-based materials. As an energy source, biomass can be used via combustion to produce heat or converted to various forms of biofuel. To date, wood remains the largest biomass energy source. As a heating option, biomass is carbon neutral. During the growing process, carbon is absorbed by the biological material, this is then released when the material is burned in a biomass boiler, thus continuing the carbon neutral cycle.

The principle of using biomass is simply the process of burning logs, woodchip or wood pellets in a biomass boiler. Biomass heating boilers are extremely efficient. The majority of boilers run on wood chips or pellets and have automatic fuel feeders which refill them at regular intervals and don’t need supervision. Biomass boilers can be connected to your existing central heating and hot water circuits with numerous siting options.
